Indian IT industry's USP is its cost arbitrage and talent abundance. This 90-day notice period is helping no one and hurting the industry.
Some would say the 90-days notice period minimizes attrition or is needed for knowledge transfer. In reality, employees who want to leave will leave the organization and there are other areas to fix, if it takes that long for KT.
The solution is simple,
Organizations should reboot the system by going back to the 30-day notice period and keep the Indian IT industry globally competitive.
Employees should be aware of the consequences that the future in a 90-day notice organization will bring. Rather look for organizations with a 30-day notice period.
Organizations benefit by:
-Wider pool of candidates available (rather than narrowing the search to early joiners).
-Fewer no-shows as candidates get less time to shop around
-Reduced bench and associated costs.
A shorter notice period is a win win for all.
CEOs may agree with my analysis but are hesitant to follow suit. Well, at Aumni Techworks, we have maintained the 30-day notice period policy for the past 5 years!
